BSA 204 W9 : Another Horror Idea

After my viewing of Nightmare on Elm Street I though about the difference between it and Stephen King's IT and how there are horror movies for every age group. Kids have the likes of IT, Chucky and Poltergeist (stories that have the same capacity for fear as any older subgenre), for teens you have slasher movies like Elm Street or Halloween, and adults have horrors like Rosemary's Baby. There are even remakes of some horrors/thrillers where the new twist they put on the story is by changing the age of the protagonist - a great example of this is Rear Window and Disturbia (the same concept, but by changing the main character's age it also changes the restrictions placed on them, who they surround themselves with and their status within the world).

So I thought that it would be great to roll all three of these into one film, or in the case of what I settled with being a good idea - rolling kids horror with teenage horror.

The film I propose is one where the first half follows a group of kids as seen in a book like IT and then after defeating the evil (also almost like in IT) there is a large span of time before it re-appears and the character have to face off against it one last time, now grown up into teenagers who fit into each of the stereotypical slasher movie cliches.

This would give a fresh twist to the genre by making us actually be invested into the characters when they start being killed off. We've seen them grow up and understand them much better as people, we are attached to them because of their past struggles and victory, we also root more for the characters who are usually less likable additions to the ensemble. The slut or the jock will be people we saw as kids and who we have grown fond of, we understand them from a different perspective and their deaths will actually be effective. In my mind this is a way of making the typical old formula feel fresh again, and will hopefully create the same sensation in the audience as people had back when Halloween or Elm Street first came out.

The working story:

In a small town a group of middle schoolers go to a haunted house and start believing that some of the attractions are real, these entities follow them home where they are haunted. In an effort to defeat these demons and with no help from the adults who consider them to be no more than scared children, they find that the haunted house operator is the perpetrator of their fears.

He is an insane and dangerous pedophile scaring them into submission before their eventual slaughter, without the aid of their parents or the police the children take it into their own hands and kill the sick pervert.

Years later they are all about to leave highschool and have grown into the classic slasher stereotypes, the killer returns as a supernatural entity, bringing all their childhood fears with him. Now teenagers they must once again battle this evil, but hardened by life they don't believe in his supernatural power. One by one these characters we've now attached ourselves to die and we're left with only one final girl who manages to once and for all rid this world and the next of the serial child murderer.
