BSA 204 W10 : Finally a Contained Thriller Idea

Ever since seeing The Guilty I have been thinking about contained thrillers because of how awesome they are for low budget productions as well as serving as a prime example of good, effective writing.

Yesterday I randomly stumbled across this clip from the Resident Evil 2 (2019) remake, based on the original game from 1998.

I really liked the little bit with the truck driver, I like how he is getting a part of the mystery on his way to deliver a package, the atmospheric sound effects are great and I absolutely love his bad little joke - him murmuring to himself is great because it must get really lonely to be a truck driver.

End of the day I wished there was more of this content and wished for a whole movie like this, so I devised an idea.

The notes from my phone:

A lonely truck driver with a tendency to talk to himself listens to the radio and talks to other drivers while some supernatural shit goes down.

At almost 2am he is driving across country and due to the stormy weather conditions he has to take a detour, going through an area that many truck drivers consider the Bermuda's Triangle of roads because of how many accidents occur there - allegedly because of the terrain, but when he goes through he finds the road conditions are perfectly normal, there is something else afoot.

Beginning he's driving and having banter with other drivers going places, thry all mention the roadworks and decide to take the bermudas triangle together, getting to their destinations on time. The other two are ahead of him, one about an hour away, the other 5 minutes, although this changes throughout the film.

Maybe one driver is transporting something that he doesnt know what it is, one of those confidential deals.

There should be at least one example of someone trekking out in the darkness and rain, kilometers from the closest city.

One trucker has a dog.

The three drivers are all transporting part of the same equipment for the government and its one of those confidentiality things. They have to take the detour because of the storm and then scary shit starts happening. Its all actually related to the stuff they're transporting and not the road thats haunted, their load is a teleportation gateway device to an alternate dimension that might just be hell - the spooky shit that happens is this stuff playing up.

One of the drivers is a bit of a rookie, with this being his first real job like this.

Tense scene with dangerous terrain.

Scene where rookie becomes possessed, tries to kill him / then run him off the road

Me and my brother have this codeword in case anything actually serious happens, like we get buried alive or some shit and need to be rescued

You can see how the idea slowly develops and morphs, towards the latter half I start spouting random ideas I have for it, like the last line there being a bit of dialogue I though a character could say, probably the rookie and have it come into play later in the film again.

Logline:

A group of three truck drivers transport a confidential package for the government, but have to take a detour due to stormy weather, going a path known by truckers as the road equivalent of the Bermuda triangle, infamous for its dangerous terrain, accidents and people disappearing.
