BSA 204 W15 : The Devil's Hole

Anyone remember this thing, fuck that was weird...and the voice

We've been rehearsing and filming Matthew's third year project, which is set in the Bush. The place we went to on the second day of location shooting there was a sign that mentioned something called the Devil's Hole. This was next to a really disgusting river, which we assumed was the thing being mentioned.

Alas the "Devil's Hole" became an instant meme and we joked about it for the rest of the shoot, creating a semi-narrative from it. Many a laugh was had and we decided at some point we should go somewhere and completely unplanned just make something.

That is for another time though, I want to make more things (we should be filming all the time really and to do that we always need more content). So here is my idea for a short film adaptation of The Devil's Hole:

Logline

Two friends wish to make it big by creating the best and biggest documentary that Invercargill has ever seen as they set off into the bush to find the fabled Devil's Hole (a watering hole where many a person has gone missing or turned up drowned) and unveil its darkest secrets,

Scene 1

It's a fake docu/found footage thing. Basically a parody of movies like The Blair Witch Project.

Them talking to camera and outlining their objective, reading a sign that tells of The Devil's Hole.

The Two Characters

I want to use Matthew and Kiarne as actors, they are both quite natural and fun to watch, as well as of course being easy to access. These are my resources dammit!

Amblin Bowers - the ambitious young filmmaker with an intense drive to be more than the small town allows, he want Hollywood fame and to be the greatest documentary director in the world.

Tane Wha - His unassuming sidekick, who is content with his life and often in his naivity overshadows Amblin by philosophically outwitting him. He can see the truth as he isn't clouded by the desire to be greater than he is. He also makes a lot of sexual jokes.

It's a typical kind of relationship where the sidekick is in fact the more talented of the two, and the protagonist put him down for this, undermining his achievements to help prop up his own ego.

The movie is about ambition and the Hollywood system, where people are often chewed through and spit out, usually accompanied by an unhealthy dose of sexual harassment.

The Devil's Hole is actually the site of a serial rapist as the two find.
