BVA 603 W8 : Think And Create

Aims:

Why are we doing this?

- To provide exposure for upcoming FILMMAKERS and animators in Invercargill and award them for their creative output, encouraging the artists to continue to pursue their craft and creating a host of new career opportunities for them through the new network connections they will make.

Objectives:

What specific things do we want to achieve?

The Think and Create Committee would like to:

- Shine a spotlight on Invercargill's young creatives, giving them the opportunity to show their work off in a public theater. A showcase for what value lies within the arts program in SIT for the public and developing an awareness of our work within the community.

- Increase the creatives' confidence and self-esteem, awarding and noticing their work hopefully encouraging them to further pursue their crafts.

- Create new network connections and resulting career opportunities for the creative individuals, exposing them to a new audience and potential customer base.

- Gain experience in organizing a complex event and prepare us to execute similar exhibitions for ourselves in the future.

Measure of Success:

How will we identify success?

- Students gain a greater drive to succeed in their creative endeavors, recognition through the awards and exhibiting their work to the public gives the students a new sense of purpose and motivation, making them excited for their upcoming years in study and future adventures in the arts.

- The participants and audience members desire more events in this similar fashion and greater opportunity to share in local art, the people who attended want more chances to mingle with the artistic creatives in their community and/or their creative peers.

- The general public feel more aware of the artistic community within Invercargill and especially if they remember specific works or creative individuals showcased.

- Students and attendees have no complaints about the experience and compliment the ease and accessibility of the experience, especially with regard to submissions.

- A good turnout of attendees. Filling, or nearly filling, the theater.

- Drunk attendees who can't stop eating.

Apparently a good way of working out these types of aims and measure is to split it between Quantitative and Qualitative - the first being the statistical reality of something and the second focusing on how we or the attendees/participants personally felt about the event. Obviously Quantitative is easier to measure, it's something that is based in a mathematical certainty, we can count and compare the results, Qualitative is something which is harder to measure but which definitely has more of an effect on the community and public opinion as a whole. Word of mouth becomes very important when considering the Qualitative results, it is something that we can record with surveys and interviews with the individuals involved with the project.
