BVA 603 W9 : Dan Sim

A man came to talk to us about marketing oneself and your art online, his name was Dan, his last name was Sim.

Here is what I took away from it most:

- Video content is very important, something I have wondered before, he explains how important youtube is now and how it has become a search engine almost as powerful as google itself. People think visually and videos help better understand something in a shorter amount of time. He has an anecdote that people watch videos these days in all kinds of situations, ones where historically would seem very abnormal.

He mentions that video content on Instagram is very effective and notes that these days there are videos with subtitles, foregoing the need for sound.

We have to keep this in mind and try to put out as much video content as possible, doing subtitles as well to cast our net even wider.

- COIN is a new business in Invercargill, they support Entrepreneurs, talking to them would be useful for us as artists and they might be supportive of our event.

- Using keywords is very important in making sure that people find your site and your content, choose words that you would use to look for what you've made, not necessarily just the brand itself. We need to keep this in mind for Think & Create as well, choosing words that cast a larger net than just the name itself, which is vague, but also being specific in describing it. Could even do more than just Invercargill, choosing to use Southland and even NZ film festival and art exhibition. All exposure is good even if those individuals further away might not be able to attend.
