Screenwriting : Smart Car Horror (Feature) Beat Sheet
A smart car goes rogue and attempts to rid the world of cars and their owners who are a hazard to the environment.
Teaser: A woman sits alone in her car on the side of the road, it's dark and stormy, she talks to her father on the phone (a successful writer) and he regales her with a horror story he's working on. The tow truck finally arrives but she doesn't trust the man, things start seeming very off and the sequence ends with screaming as red car lights illuminate the road. Cut to black:
ACT I: In which a grease head inherits his father's most prized car in his will and has to drive back to make things right with his mother, but on the road he starts getting hunted down by an eerie smart car. This escalates until finally he manages to run the smart car off the road, finding a young woman inside - seemingly trapped.
ACT II: The car breaks down on the side of the road in the rain, the woman is frustrated and tries using the car's AI interface to find out what's wrong, but doesn't manage to get anywhere. She calls a tow-truck and her father. Her father apologizes for the car's malfunctioning, as it was a gift from him to her. They talk some more as the tow truck driver shows up, we see what really happened - that being that the car freaks out and interprets the tow-truck driver's diesel car as evil and in need of extermination, the man dies a horrible death and all that the woman can do is watch on.
ACT III: The guy helps the girl escape the car in an escape room (Cube) type sequence, as the car threatens to slowly come back to life, she gets pulled out in the nick of time before the car drives off and smashes into the guy's car - they have to try and get into the car as it's being rammed and destroyed.
ACT IV: They drive off as fast and far as they can, going into the fields where it has trouble traversing, but unfortunately theirs break down and they have to set off on foot after the guy gives a heartfelt goodbye to his father's car. They walk off trying to get to civilization while being pursued by the struggling killer car.
ACT V: They talk and get to a farm house, hoping there is people, but there's not. They have a good moment of bonding ( a modern girl and an old fashioned guy) before deciding to take control of some heavy farm equipment and going to completely destroy the car. They finally push it down a hill where it explodes. Embrace and happy ending. We see them complete each of their arcs.
