BSA 603 W2 : Formatting Questions

He talks about how you should know what you want, be able to display knowledge on your chosen subject while staying humble and to persist until you get where you want to be.

Jerry did an amazing amount of research over the last week, providing us with backup for most of the important topics we would want to talk about - it's great to have a political genius on our team, really takes off the edge and makes what could have been the hardest part of this project into something that is a joy to learn.

Believe the research will be present on his blog: https://jerrywestawayscreenarts.blogspot.com/search/label/BVA603

From this Natasha formatted some questions:

As you can see we have decided to make the video segments just testimonials in which the students describe their experience related to certain issues, then the MC has an informed and formally phrased question related to that. I think this was a good idea from the team and will work much better than just video questions directed at the candidates.

In the meeting today we also covered some identity things, like choosing a title (SIT down for a Q and A with Invercargill mayoral candidates) - a play on Stand UP for SIT, hopefully marketing takes this and runs for it, everyone saw those Stand Up posters, this would draw attention I think.

For the next week my team will be working towards filming on Tuesday next week - this means we need to finalize our questions, sort out talent release forms and book the gear. Hopefully we can get out on the streets next Tuesday during class time.

We also got a worksheet to do, in order to figure out just what a committee is and what it could possibly be for:

1) Why would you form a committee to assist in the coordination and implementation of an event like the Think and Create Awards?

 - To ensure everyone involved is communicating and moving towards the same goal, breaking down into smaller groups and assigning roles help manage the workload and ensure that everything follows a plan.

2) How regularly do you think a committee needs to meet in order to successfully coordinate a project like the Think and Create Awards?

 - At least once a week, but the team leaders should be constantly in contact as major developments occur.

3) What might be some of the pros and cons associated with having a large committee e.g. more than 12 people?

 - Larger group, less of a workload on each person, but more people to be payed. The vision can be harder to keep consistent, but there is more creative input from a larger amount of places.

4) Why do you think a committee needs a vision—clear aims and objectives?

 - To make sure everyone is moving towards the same goal.

5) What do you think being on a committee involves?

 - Communication, teamwork and divvying up of responsibilities.

6) Do you think collective responsibility is important in achieving an objective? Why?

 - Yes, so that there isn't any pointing of fingers, or laying blame on a specific individual, you fail and succeed as a team.

7) What do you think would happen if three to four committee members are undertaking the majority of the work?

 - They become overworked and resentful, others can feel useless and underutilized.

8) Why do you think having a shared sense of purpose is important in providing direction and leadership?

 - That way no one can veer off course, everyone works towards the same infallible ideal and the personal ego element is removed from the equation, resulting in a better and more motivated team as they understand the goal and can share in the desire to achieve it, while also producing better leaders as they have to be selfless and can't become enamored with their own self-image. A sense of purpose provides something to work towards that is greater than any one individual.

9) What does “being accountable to stakeholders” mean?

 - Means that you are going to be held responsible for delivering what you promised to the individuals that invested in your project, this also means you have to answer to those investors and make sure that you are producing what was promised. It means you have to satisfy a higher authority.

10) Who might your stakeholders be in terms of the Think and Create Awards project?

 - SIT, places like Southsure Insurance, people who donate things like disgusting feta cheese, anyone who has invested money or resources into making the event possible.

11) What might you gain from being part of a committee?

 - A sense of professionalism and authority, something more legitimate than what an individual might be able to receive, being part of a larger whole even gets you into meetings and places that would be hard to achieve on your own. Like how a petition holds more legitimacy than a single persons' opinion.

12) What are some of the problems associated with committees e.g. what makes a committee good/effective? What makes a committee bad/ineffective?

 - Everyone on the same page and working towards the same final goal makes a committee effective, equally ineffective can be when people don't agree and have different visions of what the final project should be.

13) What do you think makes a good committee member and why?

 - Someone who sticks to their role, does it to the best of their ability why maintaining communication with other members and working with them to achieve their goal

14) What do you think might happen if members of the committee fail to prepare for and attend meetings?

 - Communication will suffer, and the team will grow apart
